Wrapping Up the Week: Radiohead, a Radio Show, and Other Thoughts

Yes, Yorke is kind of a political-douche in the beginning

This friday night, I am writing this post instead of going out and laughing it up. But don't be afraid, dear friends. I am still laughing. This 6 pack is making sure of that, but tonight I got a kick I rarely get-- Radiohead rocked out, for a fleeting moment, and it feels like who knows how long since they've done that.

Today Radiohead announced they would play glastonbury just hours before they went on stage. Honestly, their setlist was made up almost entirely of King of Limbs and In Rainbows songs. Not terrible, by any means, but not what you reaaally want them to play. I respect the  new material, and I welcome it into their discography, but I still miss the old stuff, I suppose. And today "Daily Mail" filled that need. What used to be a slow churner, solo piece, is now a fully formed Radiohead song, complete with a musical climax that was last seen on Hail to the Thief. Mainly, it's obvious these guys still have the heart for this, and that's what counts, right?

Okay, now that I'm done with the Radiohead plug (honestly, they don't happen very often), hit the jump to find out some news about the blog, and a small announcement you may or may not care about.

First, Colossal is getting a radio show. Starting tomorrow, on every Saturday from noon to 2pm, I will be on the University of Arkansas' student run radio, KXUA. If you live in the area, set your radio thingys to 88.3, or if you don't live in the area or don't have a radio like most normal people (right?) go to http://kxua.uark.edu/ and stream it live. Tomorrow is the first show, so if you listen in, expect some technical difficulties and foolish remarks as I adjust. And all that. Also, I will (hopefully) be podcasting the show so expect it to pop up here on Sundays.

Second, soon I will be giving album reviews on the weekend. I started this at first, but wasn't able to keep up with it. Now I pledge that any important album release on a given week will have a review out the weekend before, either Saturday or Sunday. Possibly, and preferably, both. This blog is a work in progress, so except me to not hit the mark every weekend.

Third, a totally blog-unrelated announcement. One of my favorite bands, Black Moth Super Rainbow, will be hitting St. Lous on Monday, September 12th. This is something I am definitely going to, as I totally have a soft spot for Tobacco and his wacky, acid-inducing main band. I guess I am posting this as an fyi for anyone else who is interested, and also in case anyone wants to join me. The end.
